Joyce’s Message

2018 is shaping up to be a very active year.  With the decrease in inventory, prices will rise.  Buyers, please don’t wait until you are priced out of the market.  Call me for current, up to date information.  Rentals seem to be booking a little slower this year, but hopefully that is just people being unsure of their dates.  Please, whatever you do, don’t book your vacation with VRBO or other sites that take all the choices out of the owners’ hands and charge renters huge fees.  Check out these local rental sites: or other local sites to book your vacation.

OWA in Foley

The OWA in Foley opened its doors the end of July last year, but are running on a limited schedule during the winter.  The Poach Band of Creek Indians with the City of Foley have formed a joint venture for this park, which features 21 rides, Groovy Goat Restaurant, Wahlburgers’ Restaurant & Hershey Ice Cream Parlor plus a large lake.  Also, in the park is the Marriott Towne Place Suites.  More stores, restaurants & features will be added in 2018.

Misc Info

Three new snorkeling reefs are currently being built about 300' off Orange Beach shoreline and will be a great place to practice this sport.

We are currently in the turtle nesting season so be careful not to disturb the nests or leave items on the beach that might interfere with their entrance to the beach.

For locals and visitors that love Sea & Suds Restaurant, their owner of 41 years, Nancy Peyer died on September 1.  This is the only restaurant on the Gulf in the area.

The new hotel & convention center at Gulf State Park is scheduled to open in November.  The Lodge, a 350-room Hilton hotel, 1,000 person conference center, with 12,160 sq ft ballroom, will also have a Gulf-front restaurant.

 Locals Only

Gulf Shores plans to break away from the Baldwin County School System and form their own system. A board has been nominated and a new Superintendent has been named.  Orange Beach will remain with the Baldwin County Public Schools.  There is lots to be discussed, including where Orange Beach students will attend during the transition.  Orange Beach has already announced the construction of a new middle school on Canal Rd where the old sewer plant was located, but it will not be completed until 2019.  They also plan to build a new high school just north of the intercoastal waterway off the Toll Road.  One of our realtors, Norma Lynch, was just appointed to fill a vacancy on the Baldwin County School Board.  We are all proud of her, and she will do a great job, as she is a retired teacher & principal.

A proposed 206 apartment complex called Regency Place is meeting a lot of opposition but is currently planned for downtown Gulf Shores
